This is important information you need to know about what is happening in the world (2006)
25% of China’s population with highest IQ is a greater than the number of people in North America
(Canada, USA, Mexico)
28% of India’s population with the highest IQ is a greater than the number of people in North America
235 million Indians are middle class, many of them are very educated – That is almost as much as the whole USA
population (about 300 million)
Both China and India have more honor students than the USA has students
China will become the #1 English speaking country in the world in a few years (more people speak English there)
India and China have their own universities. They train more engineers and other highly trained workers than the
USA does
9 of the Top 10 jobs in the USA today (2006) now require a college degree
Many good paying jobs don't require a 4-year college degree but do require higher education after high school –
a Community College level degree, Professional or Career School, Trade or Technology School degree, license,
certificate, certification, etc. Employers want workers who have college level training and the completion of some degree,
license, certificate or certification so employees get the skills to learn new ideas as technologies change and new
ideas and knowledge become part of our lives.
*This MEANS we need more students in our country with more higher education. Those with good study skills will
get the good education and the better jobs in years to come

Information in our world doubles every 6 - 8 years because of new discoveries, new ideas and new technologies
The speed of silicone chips doubles every 18 months, which increases the efficiency of electronics and what we are
able to do with the electronic tools we use. This makes information more easily available
For students now starting a 3 - 4-year tech or college degree, ½ of what they learn in their first year of study will be
outdated or need updating by their 3rd year of study – technology is advancing very quickly
The USA Department of Labor finds: (2005)
Today’s students in school will have 10 – 14 jobs by the time they are 40 - 50 years old
Today’s students will change careers 2 – 4 times in their work lifetime
1 of every 4 workers today is working for a company they've only worked for less than 1 year
1 of 2 workers today is working for a Company they've worked for less than 5 years
*This MEANS today and tomorrow's workers need to be flexible and know how to adjust to tomorrow's jobs since we
move and change jobs quite often and we must adapt to the new economic conditions. We need more people with
higher education.
We must learn to manage the new information about the world, about our relationships and about us. We need to be
able to learn it, understand it, combine it with what we learn and what we already know and remember it. To do this, we
must learn good study and learning skills and a good memory. We can start doing this today!
We must know how to Learn, Study, Read, Write, Think Critically to keep up with all the changes

Former Secretary of State Richard Riley says that the top 10 jobs that will be in demand in 2010 did not exist in 2004
New types of jobs are created every year that never existed; Some jobs we have today may not exist in 5 -10 years
We are preparing students today for jobs that don’t yet exist
Using Technologies that haven't been invented yet
In order to solve Problems that we don’t know are problems yet
*This MEANS our students and workers must Learn how to Learn ideas more than ever
Today's students will change jobs and careers more than before so they must always learn new ideas
This is the reason we need to learn Learning Strategies and Study Skills
The USA ranks 20th in world in broadband Internet penetration – 19 other countries have more Internet broadband
access (and fiber optics) than the USA does – Luxenburg just passed us (2006)
Nintendo (a video game company) invested more than 140 million in research and development in 2002
The USA government spends less than ½ of what Nintendo spent on educational and innovation research
*This MEANS we must take our students' own education more seriously We must do more on our own to get educated
and to educate our children

There are over 2.7 billion searches performed on Google each month (2006)
The number of text messages sent and received every day is greater than the population of the planet
There are about 540,000 words in the English Language today
This is about 5 x as many English words as there was during Shakespeare’s time
It is estimated that a week’s worth of New York Times newspapers has more information than a person in the 18th
century was likely to run across in a lifetime
It's estimated that there is more information in the weekend New York Times newspaper than a person who lived in
the1500s ran across in their lifetime
More than 3,000 new books are published daily
*All This MEANS that we all must now need to know how to READ what they look up, understand it to be able to use it
even more Today!

One Educator said this:
If you want to stay out of poverty, do these things:
1) Graduate from High School with a Diploma – more jobs and opportunities will be open to you if you do and you
have a better chance of making more money.
2) Avoid getting Pregnant or getting another pregnant until you're married - Many babies born to unmarried couples or
single women do not have stable homes and they are more likely to live in poverty when they grow up. It takes
2 people to raise children well and run a good household.
3) Avoid being arrested, getting lots of tickets, DUI, etc. Getting all of these costs time and money (fines, programs
you must attend, lawyers, etc.). Having a criminal record keeps you from many jobs or from advancing in many jobs.
4) Once you have a job, stay with that job and learn how to advance in that company or business. If you want to change
jobs, don't quit a job until you have another job for sure (not just a promise). Don't be out of a job for more than 6
months at a time.
*This MEANS – If you follow these 4 points, you have a 99% chance of staying out of poverty.
You may not get rich but you will avoid many problems that others have.
Now, if you want to really ADVANCE in life, do the above 4 things and get a good higher education after High School.
If you do this, you'll get many more opportunities with your a higher degree, license, certificate, certification. You will be
able to get many more different types of jobs in your life. You will be more flexible in the types of jobs you can do since
you'll be able to get the right job and career training easier.
